This video of Indian cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina making fun of Australia’s Shane Watson during their seventh and final One-Day International at Bangalore is one of the most controversial India-Australia moments ever.
Australia’s swashbuckling all-rounder Shane Watson had gone off the field after bowling five overs because of a hamstring injury, and came out to bat at No. 8 instead of No. 3, when Australia were 138 for 6.
Shane Watson was struggling to run between the wickets due to this injury. He played a straight drive that went straight to Shikhar Dhawan who was fielding at mid-off. Dhawan fielded it and then displayed an astonishing and disappointing lack of respect for an injured sportsman by hobbling exaggeratedly and mocking Watson.
This looked very ugly as Shane Watson was really struggling in the middle and his reactions said it all. The Australian all-rounder didn’t hold himself back and said a few heated words to Shikhar Dhawan. This led to a very ‘animated’ conversation in the middle and, finally, India’s captain MS Dhoni had interfere from behind the stumps by sending Shikhar Dhawan to the deep-cover boundary.
Later, Suresh Raina, who was fielding at covers almost tried to mock Shane Watson and the crowd got behind Dhawan and Raina to mock Shane Watson.
According to The Herald, India literally added insult to injury for Shane Watson, mocking the Australian all-rounder during the seventh one-day international in Bangalore.
Watson pulled up with what appeared to be yet another hamstring problem while he was bowling during India innings, and was forced off the field.
Dhawan had taken great delight in doing his best impersonation of a hobbling Watson after he had try to run through for a single, the report added.
