Broad retires as the second-highest Test wicket-taker for England. On day 3 at the Oval, Broad came out to bat in the wake of Mark Wood’s dismissal. Batting alongside James Anderson, he faced down the Australian fast bowlers with determination. In a thrilling moment, he blasted a short-pitched delivery from Mitchell Starc for a six over square leg. However, the next over saw the end of England’s innings, as off-spinner Todd Murphy claimed James Anderson’s wicket.

Speaking with Sky Sports after the third day’s play, Broad expressed a heartfelt love for the sport, which, even on the brink of retirement, remained as strong as ever. He affirmed, “Tomorrow or Monday will be my last game of cricket. It’s been a wonderful ride, a huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and England badge as much as I have.”
