As India was all set to take on the visitors, Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens the weather had different plans. The match saw a delayed start as the rain wasn’t in the mood of bidding farewell. But, the day belonged to Sri Lanka’s fast bowler Suranga Lakmal.

The match was affected by rain and then India was asked to bat by the Sri Lankan captain. India had the problem of plenty choosing the opening player among three openers in the squad.

Kohli decided to go with KL Rahul and Dhawan and Murali Vijay was made to sit out. It seemed an easy one for India given India is the best ranked team in the ICC test rankings but KL Rahul was dismissed the very first ball of the match by Suranga Lakmal. It was one ripper of a delivery that left Rahul clueless and had him waking back to the pavilion. The overcast conditions seemed perfect for seam bowling and Lakmal looted all the leverage from the conditions.

The very first ball seemed to be going away from the right handed batsman and with a little extra bounce it kissed the outside edge of Rahul’s bat and he was out the very first ball. Rahul became the 6th Indian batsman to be dismissed for a golden duck and he would surely hate of be in this tally.

Suranga Lakmal had a dream spell as he bowled 41 dot balls in a row and bothered the Indian batsman profoundly as they seemed struggling for answers. Later the day’s play was dismissed due to bad light but whatever play we had belonged to Sri Lanka as they have already sent back Dhawan and Captain Kohli too.
