Ajinkya Rahane batted brilliantly in the first innings of the ongoing Test matched a scored a much-needed hundred. Rahane is the vice captain of India’s Test team and one of the most technically batsmen.

But, in the last few series, before the ongoing series, he had struggled to converts his starts into a big one. He wasn’t looking out of form but still couldn’t register a big score. But, the way he batted on Day 1 of the second Test was a treat to watch. He scored a Test hundred after a long gap of 17 innings, and this is a very good sign for Indian cricket team.

Rahane batted in his trademark elegant fashion and made Lankan bowlers look very ordinary. He took his time initially, but never looked out of touch. Almost everything came from the middle of Rahane’s bat and he was partnered brilliantly by Cheteshwar Pujara, who continued his good form from the first match and scored a yet another hundred.

Rahane’s innings was pretty much flawless but there was one moment when was given out by the on-field umpire. Rahane went back on a full delivery by Rangana Herath and he was given out after a loud appeal by the Lankans.

But, making use of the Decision Review System (DRS), Rahane asked for a review and the replay showed a big inside edge. The decision was changed and Rahane stayed in the middle. Such howlers prove that the game of cricket needs DRS and it should be always and everywhere, in all three formats of the game. Watch the video here:
