There was a very funny moment on Day 5 of the recently concluded first Test of the ongoing 5-match Test series between India and England. England batted brilliantly in their second innings and gave India a total of 310 runs in 49 overs.

India’s chances were dealt a blow when opener Gautam Gambhir was dismissed in the second over of the fourth innings by England’s seamer Chris Woakes. After that, India lost 3 more quick wickets and the scoreboard read 71 for 4 after 23.4 overs.

The onus was now on Virat Kohli, who had to hold one end up. Ravichandran Ashwin came out, batted positively and played a few shots, but soon he played one straight into the hands of Joe Root. When Virat Kohli was batting, the pitch started deteriorating and the odd one from spinners was spinning like a cobra. One delivery by Zafar Ansari took off from good length just took off and flew away from Virat Kohli’s bat.

Virat Kohli saw the funny side of it and asked the third umpire whether it’s one for the over. This made everyone laugh on the field and also in the commentary box. Watch it here:

The commentators also saw the funny side of it and there was a big laughter in the commentary box.

Nasser Hussain said: “Just shows how clear his (Virat Kohli’s) mind is when batting. It goes past his shoulder and immediately he says it must be one for the over, with the laugh. And the umpire gave it.”

“Lovely, lovely. Virat Kohli immediately looks at the square leg,” said former England skipper Atherton.

“He (Virat Kohli) can see the funny side. That’s great. Especially when there’s so much pressure,” Ravi Shastri said.
