Matches between India and Australia and controversies goes hand-in-hand. While the tests in Adelaide didn’t had much, the tests in Perth surely spiced up things for the fans of both the teams.
Virat Kohli was in a great form, he went on to make his 25th Test century and arguably one of his best knocks of the year, however, was dismissed with a very controversial catch that has now divided the social media into two parts, the majority of which believes he should have given not-out as the ball touched the ground. Virat Kohli though refused to move and it all went to the third umpire.
The third umpire Nigel Llong requested for various angles to check if the catch was clear. Although, there weren’t enough evidence to over-rule the skipper, but he was given out, which led to Kohli trudging back to the pavilion in disgust. Virat Kohli was clearly not at all happy with the decision as he walked back to the pavilion.
But the Australian crowd gave him a standing ovation for an exceptional knock. However, the skipper didn’t raise his bat considering that his team wasn’t in a great position.
Here, have a look at the video of the controversial catch after which Kohli had to walk back to pavilion :

Here, have a look at the reactions of twitterati on the controversial catch :
I know there will be a lot of debate on the Kohli dismissal but it is critical to note that the law says there must be conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field umpire’s decision. Kohli thought it bounced but historically those have been given out (more)

The bottom line is that technology in such matters is inconclusive and will always be inconclusive because we are seeing a 3 dimensional event in 2 dimensions. And so the verdict tend to go with the on-field umpire.

Virat Kohli @imVkohli was given out wrongly. There was no conclusive evidence. The batsman should have been given the benefit of doubt. #INDvAUS #PerthTest

Was Kohli caught by Handscomb?
Katich: “To me it looked like he had his fingers wrapped underneath the ball. They seemed really confident from the moment. The soft signal from all reports was out.”

Can’t really understand why there is a soft signal for referrals. The point you go up itself is that you are not sure… #Kohli #INDvAUS
