India’s swashbuckling opening batsman Rohit Sharma, who is popularly known as Hitman for his big hitting, played one of the best ODI innings of his career against New Zealand in Kanpur, in the third and final match of the recently concluded ODI series.
Rohit Sharma is one of the best opening batsmen in the world and he has been the x-factor for India since his promotion to the top of the batting order in limited overs cricket. Rohit is the only batsman in the world to score 2 double hundreds in ODI cricket.
And, the way he was batting in Kanpur, many thought he would go on to score his double hundred in ODI cricket. Rohit batted positively right from the first over of the match but he didn’t play extravagant shots in the first few overs. It was a flat deck and Rohit made full use of the batting conditions once he got his eye in.
The Mumbai batsman had struggled to score runs in the first two matches and he was under pressure to do well and play a big knock to send a strong message across to all those who are competing for the opening slot. He looked in total control of his game and kept the runs flow going throughout his innings.
Rohit scored 147 runs off 138 just balls and played many delightful strokes all around the park. But, there was one stroke that stood out. It was the 10th over of the match, and Kiwis fastest bowler Adam Milne changed his bowling length a bit too short.
Rohit Sharma, who is one of the best players against short pitched bowling in Indian cricket team, pulled it off the front foot, sending it soaring over midwicket with a monstrous six.
Captain Kohli, who was at the other end, was very impressed with the stroke and he gave a brilliant reaction. The video was posted on bcci.tv and a Twitter user embedded on Twitter. Watch it here:
