Virat Kohli perhaps couldn’t believe that Shardul Thakur was named the best fielder in India’s dressing room for the IND vs AFG match in Delhi.
India hammered Afghanistan by 8 wickets courtesy of Rohit Sharma’s blistering century, followed by Virat Kohli’s half-century, which made a mockery of the target of 273 runs.
After the game, the players assembled in the dressing room. The fielding coach then announced Shardul Thakur as the best fielder for India in this game. Shardul had taken a brilliant catch at their boundary line of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the Afghanistan opener.
Gurbaz smashed a ball from Hardik Pandya to deep backward square leg where Thakur got hold of the ball but threw it back in the air as he was tumbling over the rope. After putting a step into the rope, Shardul got back and completed a brilliant catch.
When the fielding coach announced that Thakur was the best fielder for India for the match, Virat Kohli couldn’t believe it and he stood up with a smile on his face and hands on his head. The fielding coach then asked Kohli, who was the best fielder for India in the previous match against Australia, to give Thakur the best fielder medal. Virat Kohli and Shardul both had a big laugh and shared a warm hug.
Like Virat did when he got the best fielder medal, Shardul put the medal between his teeth and showed it off to captain Rohit Sharma.
