VIDEO: Yashasvi Jaiswal Scored A Hundred On Debut

VIDEO: Yashasvi Jaiswal Scored A Hundred On Debut: Young Yashasvi Jaiswal has indeed written a captivating chapter in cricket history books with his spectacular debut hundred. On day two of the Test match against West Indies in Dominica, this left-handed opener resolutely faced the menacing Caribbean pace attack. Having resumed the day on 40 not out, Jaiswal showcased a combination of grit and aggression, characteristics worth appreciating in a debutant.

The twenty-one-year-old adopted a cautious yet assertive strategy. Interestingly, Jaiswal seemed to have gathered his strengths post-lunch, revealing a more audacious face of his batting. Amidst cheers and applause, he accomplished his well-deserved century, thus inscribing his name among the proud ranks of Indian debut centurions.

The list Jaiswal joined is no ordinary league. Indeed, he became the 17th Indian to score a hundred on his Test debut, sharing the platform with his partner Rohit Sharma. Sharma, too, had mirrored a similar feat on his debut against West Indies back in 2013.

Undoubtedly, the last one to join this list was Shreyas Iyer, who graced the cricket field with his debut century against New Zealand in Kanpur, in 2021. However, Jaiswal’s accomplishment bore a different flavour to it. The young lad is only the seventh Indian batsman, and the first in 13 years, to score a Test century on debut away from home.

This distinction sets Jaiswal apart, a feat achieved only by a few. Suresh Raina, the last Indian to score a debut ton outside India, had made a glorious 120 against Sri Lanka in 2010. Jaiswal’s name is now etched beside him.

Furthermore, Yashasvi Jaiswal is also the third Indian opener to make a Test hundred on debut. His predecessors in this regard are Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 187 against Australia in 2013, and Prithvi Shaw, who managed a stunning 134 against West Indies in 2018. The young man now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with these cricketing giants, a testament to his emerging talent.

Despite his youthful age, Yashasvi Jaiswal received significant praise leading up to the Test. The vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, was among those who lauded his skills. Today, as we applaud his fantastic innings, we see that Rahane’s confidence in him wasn’t misplaced.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dazzling debut is more than just an individual achievement. It represents the strength and promise of India’s cricketing future. As spectators, we can only hope that this is merely the first of many such splendid performances by the young opener. It’s safe to say, Jaiswal has truly arrived on the international cricket stage. His journey, we believe, has just begun.
