MS Dhoni’s smashed 50 runs off ball 43 with three fours and two sixes in Jharkhand’s opening match but his efforts weren’t enough. Dhoni-led Jharkhand lost by five runs to Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy opener at Eden Gardens on Saturday.

All eyes were on MS Dhoni when he took the field as Jharkhand’s captain. After he was sacked as Rising Pune Supergiant’s captain, his fans were very upset and they were looking forward to watching him captaining his state side Jharkhand.

After Jharkhand lost a couple of early wickets, Dhoni formed a good partnership for the third wicket with Saurabh Tiwary. Dhoni and Tiwary added 81 runs for the third wicket. Dhoni played some trademark shots but could’t finish it the way he would have liked.

Brief scores: Karnataka 266; 49.4 overs (Manish Pandey 77, Ravikumar Samarth 71; Rahul Shukla 4/45, Varun Aaron 2/52, Monu Kumar 2/44, Anand Singh 2/47) beat Jharkhand 261 in 49.5 overs (Saurabh Tiwary 68, M S Dhoni 43; K Gowtham 4/58, Prasidh 2/41, T Pradeep 2/49) by five runs.
