India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been flying high on success after his epic show with the bat and ball in the just-concluded 1st Test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali. With his blockbuster show, Jadeja climbed to the top spot at the ICC Test rankings for all-rounders on Wednesday. Yes, he is now the new No. 1 allrounder in Test cricket.
Jadeja shattered a lot of records, with his stunning all-around performance on the first-Test. During the game, Jadeja played a stunning knock of 175* not out and also picked a match haul of nine wickets to help India to an innings victory over Sri Lanka in the 1st Test match.
He surpassed West Indies’ Jason Holder at the top of the rankings to become the new No. 1 allrounder in Test cricket. For the unversed, Holder held the No.1 spot since February 2021.
Meanwhile, an old statement of MS Dhoni has resurfaced on social media, wherein he had made a big prediction about the star all-rounder. Well, the statement is from the time when Jadeja had not yet established himself on the big stage. He didn’t have many significant performances under his name at that time and thus making the statement has turned out to be more insightful.
The statement was shared on Twitter by popular journalist and founder of Editorji, Vikram Chandra Twitter. He wrote:
“I’m thinking back to an interview I did with @msdhoni in 2010. @imjadeja was failing in match after match and there were loud calls that he be dropped. Dhoni told me – “ We need to have patience. One day Jadeja will be the all-rounder that India needs”

However, this wasn’t the first time that MSD had talked highly of Ravindra Jadeja. Time and again, Dhoni has heaped high praises for his Chennai Super Kings teammate. In fact, the term ‘Sir Ravindra Jadeja’ was coined by the legendary Indian captain.
Jadeja had drawn the attention of MS Dhoni a few years after his debut, courtesy of his all-around skills. In IPL 2012, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings shelled out Rs 9.72 crore (approx) to get the services of the all-rounder, and ever since then, there have been no turning backs for the cricketer. He was also CSK’s first choice retention on the IPL 2022 retention day.
