After filing a complaint with the ICC about Pakistani cricketer Muhammad Rizwan‘s on-field prayers during a match against the Netherlands on October 6th, Indian lawyer Vineet Jindal reported receiving death threats from the terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen.
Jindal posted on X (previously known as Twitter) about a threatening phone call he got from the Islamic extremist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen. After he filed a complaint over Pakistani cricketer Mod. Rizwan’s public exhibition of prayer during a game, he received death threats. Without delay, Jindal contacted the Delhi Police to report the threat and ask for assistance.
Jindal said in his original complaint that Rizwan’s behaviour of praying on the cricket pitch in front of a primarily Indian crowd was designed to draw attention to his religion as Muslim. Jindal believes that this action undermined true sportsmanship.
Jindal also said that Rizwan’s on-field prayers and commitment of his performance versus Sri Lanka to Gaza demonstrated the depth of his religious and political convictions. This is not an isolated event; Indian cricket supporters booed and chanted “Jai Shri Ram” at Rizwan during the India-Pakistan match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Vineet Jindal, in particular, has been vigorously pursuing legal action against those whose behaviour he views as harmful to Indian interests. Separately, he has accused popular Pakistani sportscaster Zainab Abbas of anti-Indian and anti-Hindu sentiments in online remarks.

Zainab Abbas was present as part of the broadcasters in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Jindal then contacted the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to request that Zainab Abbas be replaced. Jindal said that people who do not respect India and Hindu Dharma are not welcome, but those who do are encouraged to visit. Sports, religion, and politics all come into play here, and it will be interesting to watch how the appropriate authorities respond.
