Virat Kohli Is Expected To Become Team India’s Mentor

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan feels that Virat Kohli will be expected to take up the role of a mentor at this point in his career. Kohli is currently with the Indian cricket team in West Indies for the ongoing multi-format tour.

Virat Kohli Should Take Up Mentor’s Role – Zaheer Khan

During the second Test match between India and the West Indies in Port of Spain, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan highlighted the significance of Kohli adopting the role of a mentor at this point in his career.  Speaking to Jio Cinema, Zaheer expressed his belief that now that the captaincy duties are behind him, Kohli can think of taking this role. He said:

“He’s constantly involved in the game. I think that those aspects are very important for him going forward. But it’s so good to see him in a good space and scoring runs. I think that’s what he should just do right now.”

It has to be noted, that with the captaincy duties behind him now, Kohli can guide and mentor the younger players in the Indian squad, which boasts talents like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ishan Kishan. Emphasizing the same aspect, Zaheer talked about the importance of this mentorship role for Kohli and how it would keep him engaged and motivated.

Zaheer also went on to say that it’s good to see Kohli in a good space and scoring runs. For the unversed, Kohli scored a half-century in the 1st Test match and a century in the second Test match against West Indies. He said:

“He should enjoy this part of the career where he’s actually going to be guiding youngsters like, you know, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. That mentor role is going to be expected of him at this stage in his career, something that he does anyways, but you know that keeps you going and keeps you in the game,”
