Whether it is on or off the field, Virat Kohli never shies away from showing his emotions. The 34-year-old cricketer was super ecstatic at receiving a gold medal in the dressing room after India’s win over Australia in Chennai, where India kick-started their World Cup 2023 tournament with a 6-wicket win.
Virat Kohli scored 85 runs and formed a brilliant partnership of 165 runs with KL Rahul after India were in early trouble at 2/3 in 2 overs in their chase of 200 runs.
In the dressing room, Virat Kohli was given a medal by the fielding coach for his proactiveness in helping Rohit Sharma and the bowlers in setting the fields, keeping the right men at the right positions. India were brilliant in the field and save multiple boundaries through their athletic and agile fielding efforts, marshaled by Kohli himself.
Beaming with a massive smile on his face, Kohli asked the fielding coach to put the medal on his neck and then he put the medal between his teeth like medal winners often do.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul, who had walked in to bat at number 5 with the score reading 2/3, revealed what Kohli had told him when he joined the senior batsman in the middle.
Rahul revealed that Kohli told him to bat like they do in a Test match as the pitch was helping the bowlers and there wasn’t any real pressure of the required run-rate. He reckoned they needed to play out the new ball first as the Aussie pacers were bowling well.
“Virat said there’s big help in the wicket, and [we] just have to play proper shots and play like it’s Test cricket for some time and see where it goes,” Rahul said. “That was mostly the plan, and happy that we could do the job for the team.”
India will next face Afghanistan in Delhi on Wednesday. Having fallen just 15 runs short of a century in Chennai, Kohli can hit a century in Delhi, his home city.
