The Indian skipper Virat Kohli slammed media reports on his decision to quit the T20 captaincy, following the ongoing T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli, who is hailed as the modern legend of the game, had announced that he would be stepping down as team India’s captain from the shortest format of the game following the ICC T20 World Cup.

However, ever since the big announcement, several theories have been making rounds on the internet regarding his decision to quit the T20 captaincy. From stories of a rift with Rohit Sharma to theories of receiving constant pressure from BCCI for not winning an ICC trophy, the internet is filled with such stories.

Putting an end to all such rumors, Virat Kohli has finally broken his silence over the captaincy controversy. On Saturday, during a press conference ahead of India vs Pakistan clash, Virat Kohli was asked the reason to announce it before the T20 World Cup, this is when the Indian skipper decided to put rest to all the stories floating around by saying he won’t provide fodder to controversy seekers. He said:

“I have already explained myself a lot and I don’t think I need to harp on that anymore. Our focus is to play well in this World Cup and do what we need to do as a team. Rest people are trying to dig up things that don’t exist and I am not someone who is ever going to give fodder to that. I have explained myself very honestly and openly and if people feel there’s more to it than what I have already told, I feel pretty bad for them. That’s certainly not the case,”

Recently, former Indian skipper and the current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also revealed that he was shocked by Virat Kohli’s decision to step down from the position of captaincy from the shortest format of the game. Speaking on Salaam Cricket, Ganguly clarified there was no pressure from the BCCI and there was no other reason. He said:

“I was surprised (that Virat Kohli decided to step down as T20 captain). This decision must have been taken only after the England tour and it is his decision. There was no pressure from our end. We didn’t tell him anything. We don’t do things like that because I myself have been a player so I understand. It is very difficult to be a captain in all formats for this long,”
