Kolkata Knight Riders kickstarted phase 2 of the IPL 2021 with a brilliant note by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 9 wickets. Before the match started KKR decided to give an opportunity to Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer by adding him to the squad for the match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Venkatesh Iyer played a superb inning and fulfilled the expectations of the team management, who showed faith in him. He walked out to open the innings against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore and played a terrific knock of 41 runs off 27 balls in his debut match to help KKR register a stunning win.

Iyer was well supported by Shubman Gill, who played a stunning knock of 48 runs. With this victory, KKR has registered their third win of the season and has jumped to number 5 in the points table.

Meanwhile, after the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli, who is hailed as the modern legend of the game, was seen sharing some words of wisdom to youngster Venkatesh Iyer.
