Australian cricket legend and the greatest leg-spinner of all time, Shane Warne, passed away, aged 52, following asuspected heart attack. This is truly shocking and heartbreaking news, not just within cricket but around the world.

Shane Warne, who helped the Australian cricket team win the World Cup in 1999, was a true sporting icon, a larger-than-life person. He was also a part of five Ashes-winning teams during his career.

Former Australian leg-spin legend Shane Warne dies at 52

Fox Cricket reported that Warne died in Koh Samui, Thailand. The news of his demise was confirmed by Warne’s management company in a brief statement released on Friday. The statement read:

“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” The statement added: “The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”

The cricket fraternity – including fans, cricketers, and experts are mourning the death of the legendary cricketer.

Among many, former Indian captain and batting maestro Virat Kohli also took to Twitter and expressed his emotions on the sudden and untimely demise of the Australian spin wizard. In his tweet, Kohli paid heartfelt condolences to Warne and hailed his legacy. He wrote:

“Life is so fickle and unpredictable. I cannot process the passing of this great of our sport and also a person I got to know off the field. RIP #goat. Greatest to turn the cricket ball.”

For Australian cricket, this is the second devastating news in 24 hours as great, Rod Marsh, also passed away on Friday having suffered a major heart attack last week.

Incidentally, Warne had condoled his demise in a tweet this morning only. He had posted: “Sad to hear the news that Rod Marsh has passed. He was a legend of our great game & inspiration to so many young boys & girls. Rod cared deeply about cricket & gave so much-especially to Australia & England players. Sending lots & lots of love to Ros & the family. RIP mate”
