India’s swashbuckling batsman, Virat Kohli, is one of the most animated characters on the field. From sledging to showing “middle finger”, Kohli is never too far from a controversy.

Let’s have a look at some of the biggest controversies of Virat Kohli’s career so far:

1) The Fingergate (2011-12)

 

Everything was wrong for the hot-headed Indian batsman, and things turned worse when, Kohli, who was fielding at the boundary-line for a long period of time lost his cool, after being constantly abused by the crowd. In disgust, he stuck out his middle finger at his hecklers. Virat Kohli’s infamous act was caught on camera and the ruthless Australian media heavily criticised it.

Later, Kohli defended it by saying:

“I agree cricketers don’t have to retaliate. what when the crowd says the worst things about your mother and sister. the worst I’ve heard (sic)”.


2) Ugly Spat With Gautam Gambhir 

 

 

This happened during an IPL game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. As Gambhir and other players walked towards cover region to celebrate the dismissal, Kohli instead of trudging back to the pavilion walked towards short extra cover and apparently made a remark. Suddenly, Gambhir was seen walking angrily towards his junior India teammate. This ugly spat stunned every Indian cricket fan.

4) Virat Kohli retweets, favourites anti-MS Dhoni news on Twitter

 

Virat Kohli ignited a controversy by retweeting and “favouriting” an anti-MS Dhoni news report. The retweet and favourtie were both deleted, but the news agency was able to take a screen grab of it.


 

5) Angry Virat Kohli Abuses A Journalist 

 

Virat Kohli suddenly lost his cool after the training session during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, as he hurled abuses at a journalist before the side’s group league game against West Indies at the WACA on Friday. Later, the team management defended Kohli by saying he apologized to the journalist.
