Virat Kohli Is All Set To Be Dropped From T20 World Cup Squad - Report

Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli will have to give his best in the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League to be in contention for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Yes, you read that right. According to a report by the ‘Telegraph’, the selectors are not keen on picking Virat for the T20 World Cup 2024 as they believe that the veteran hasn’t been able to meet the needs of the team in the shortest format of the game.

For the unversed, Virat hasn’t played any T20I cricket since the T20 World Cup 2022, however, he was picked up for the squad for the Afghanistan T20I series along with Rohit Sharma. While the BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming tournament, on the other hand, he remained silent when asked about Kohli’s T20I future.

The report further added that the BCCI has left Virat’s selection dilemma on Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, stating that not many people are willing to get involved because it is a very delicate matter.

It has been reported that Ajit Agarkar also had a word with Virat Kohli about the much-needed change in the T20I format, which Kohli has tried to implement in the T20I series against Afghanistan, though without much success.

The BCCI also feels that the slow wickets of West Indies will not favor Kohli thus the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will convince the batting maestro to make way for the youngsters in the team. The BCCI feels that youngsters like Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube, among others, have a lot more to offer to the team than Kohli in the shortest format of the game.

Meanwhile, the report also added that KL Rahul is the preferred choice to grab the wicketkeeper’s slot in the T20 World Cup squad, however, his fitness is still a concern for the selectors.
