Virat Kohli Revealed The ‘Guru Mantra’ MS Dhoni Gave To Him

Virat Kohli Revealed The ‘Guru Mantra’ MS Dhoni Gave To Him: India’s talented keeper-batter Rishabh Pant received a lot of criticism due to his shot selection in team India’s second innings in the second Test match against South Africa in Johannesburg.

He was criticized for the manner in which he threw away his wicket when India needed his services badly on Day 3 of the 2nd Test match, that India lost by even wickets as South Africa leveled the three-match series. Rishabh was dismissed for a three-ball duck while trying to charge down the track. In the first innings, Pant could only muster 17 runs off 43 balls.

While the young cricketer has been receiving a lot of backlash for his shot selection, the Indian Test skipper has decided to back his play. Addressing the press conference ahead of the 3rd Test in Cape Town, Virat showed immense faith in Rishabh Pant as he said:

We had a conversation with Rishabh during practice. A batter knows if he played the right shot according to the situation. As long as an individual accepts that responsibility (it should be fine). I think that’s how progress happens and everyone has made mistakes in their career and got out in important situations. Sometimes due to our fault and sometimes due to the pressure. Sometimes due to the bowler’s skill also”, he said during a virtual press conference on Monday.

“It is important to know that what was your mindset in that moment. What decision did you take and where was your mistake. I think only after accepting our mistake, we improve and will make sure that it isn’t repeated again”

Virat Kohli also recalled a piece of advice he received from former Indian skipper MS Dhoni that has stuck with him ever since he heard it from the legendary skipper. He said:

“MS Dhoni had told me that you should have about 7-8 months between your mistakes. MS Dhoni once told me there should be a gap of at least 7-8 months between repeating a mistake. Only then can you have a long career. This piece of advice really stuck with me.”

He added:

“That happens when you reflect on your mistakes and that’s something Rishabh does. He will learn going forward, and I am sure he will give big performances in the future,”
