In what could well be the last time he plays an ODI match in front of his home crowd in Delhi, Virat Kohli enjoyed his time on the field during Afghanistan’s batting.

India and Afghanistan faced off on Wednesday for their second World Cup 2023 encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, which is Virat Kohli’s home turf.

Afghanistan were batting first. During the afternoon period, Kohli charged up the crowd with his entertaining dance, tuning to the rhythm of the song the DJ was playing. Known to very well express his emotions on the field, Virat Kohli shook his leg and rhythmically moved his body. Seeing Kohli having fun, the Delhi crowd too erupted and cheered for the local lad.

Afghanistan post 272/8; Jasprit Bumrah takes 4

Afghanistan posted a decent total of 272/8, though this seems very much below par given what happened in the previous game in Delhi – South Africa blasted 428 and in reply, Sri Lanka scored 326 – and also not to forget India have gone with extended batting depth in the form of Shardul Thakur at number 8 instead of Mohammed Shami.

Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowles for India as he picked a terrific 4-wicket haul, putting on an exemplary display of seam bowling and usage of length and pace variations on a pitch that didn’t offer much to the bowlers.

Bumrah gave India the first breakthrough in the form of opener Ibrahim Zadran. He later returned to pick three more wickets – those of Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, and Rashid Khan. In between, Afghanistan middle-order batters Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai batted well, scoring 80 and 62 runs respectively.

Teams:

Afghanistan (Playing XI): Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
