India have started their long tour of New Zealand on a winning note after defeating the home team in a thrilling contest at Auckland. Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant match-winning knock after Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s stand for the second wicket. Both, Rahul and Kohli batted well and looked in great touch but the night belonged to Shreyas Iyer who kept his cool and took India across the line in the opening match of the 5-match T20I series.

In the post-match press conference, the Indian captain Virat Kohli said that there was no talk of jetlag in the team and all they were focused upon winning the match. Kohli expressed his happiness and satisfaction on landing two days before the match and registering a thrilling win.

“We enjoyed this. Landing two days before and playing a game like this, it was fantastic,” said Virat Kohli after India chased down 204 against New Zealand at the Eden Park

Virat Kohli didn’t give any importance to the excuse of ‘jetlag’ and said that he wanted his team to stay focused and win the opening match of the tour. He also added that the team was looking forward to playing the game.

“We never spoke of the jetlag in the team. We didn’t want any excuse. We just focused on what we needed to do to win. We were looking forward to playing,” he added.

Kohli also praised his bowlers and said 230 was looking on point but the Indian bowlers did well to pull the score back.

“You can’t be harsh on anyone on this sort of a pitch. I thought 230 was on at one point, but we pulled it back nicely,” Virat Kohli said.

Earlier, Kohli had criticized the tight scheduling of India’s matches as the team had to fly from Bengaluru to Auckland the very next day they won the ODI series against Australia.
