In the first T20I of the ongoing three-match series between India and Australia, Virender Sehwag revealed Indian Virat Kohli’s biggest weakness during his early days and how he has worked hard to improve it. In fact, he has now turned into his biggest strength. Virender Sehwag said that when Virat Kohli used to open the innings with him and Gautam Gambhir, he did not know how to find singles and rotate the strike.

Sehwag, Gambhir and Kohli are from Delhi and they have spent a lot of time together domestic and international level. When Kohli was picked for Delhi’s Ranji Trophy team, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag were the star players and all the young cricketers used to look up to them.

Needless to say, Virat Kohli was also one of them. Sehwag further added that Gambhir, Sehwag and other teammates used to discuss this in the dressing and tell him that he needs to rotate the strike more often.

This is what Virender Sehwag said during the rain-interrupted T20I between India and Australia:

Virat Kohli Has Turned His Weakness Into His Biggest Strength

“When Virat Kohli used to open with me and Gauti (Gautam Gambhir), he didn’t know how to take singles. We used to discuss this in the dressing room that he needs to learn how to take singles. He has perhaps learned from experience. Also, he has sharpened his ability to hit fours and rotate strike rather than hitting big sixes,” Virender Sehwag said.

But, now, Virat Kohli is a master when it comes to building his innings. He has added more dimensions to his game and finds no difficultly in rotating the strike. In fact, many cricket pundits across the world believe that he is the best batter in the world when it comes building an innings and keeping things busy in the middle.

We must credit Virat Kohli for converting his weakness into his biggest strength. Presently, he is, arguably, the best batsman in the world and he has earned this tag by performing consistently in the last 3 years or so, across all three formats of the game.
