The Indian skipper Virat Kohli penned down an amazing tweet to hail the brilliant partnership of newcomers Washington Sundar and Sundar Thakur.

After the collapse of top and middle-order players, debutants Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar built a 123-run stand for the seventh wicket and together they took the game by storm. Both the cricketers soon scored their respective half-centuries and fought back for India to get the team to a decent total.

However, the partnership was broken by Pat Cummins, who bowled out Shardul on 67 runs, during his knock, Thakur smashed 9 fours and 2 sixes. But Sundar continued for a while before he was scalped by Mitchell Starc with a bouncer. Sundar scored 62 runs off 144 balls, smashing 7 fours and 1 six.

Meanwhile, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli took to his Twitter and heaped praises on both the youngsters. Virat penned down an amazing tweet applauding the amazing performance of Thakur and Sundar. While Kohli praised the top-composure of Sundar, he used three words in Marathi to praise the batting performance of Thakur: ‘tula parat manla’, which means, ‘hats off to you again’.

“Outstanding application and belief by @Sundarwashi5 and @imShard. This is what test cricket is all about. Washy top composure on debut and tula parat maanla re Thakur!”

Later, explaining the meaning of ‘tula parat manla’, former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar narrated an interesting story behind Virat’s choice of words. Manjrekar revealed that ‘tula parat manla’ means ‘hats off to you again’ and also revealed why he took his hat off to Shardul Thakur again was because of his innings against West Indies. He revealed:

“We say tula manla in Mumbai a lot to state ‘hats off to you’ and that’s what he (Virat Kohli) tweeted after that innings (against West Indies) and now he has said tula parat manla which means hats off to you again,”

Thakur added that after Thakur’s match-winning knock of 17 runs in the third ODI against West Indies in Cuttack in 2019, Virat walked up to him seeking advice on a Marathi term to describe Thakur’s innings.
