Virat Kohli’s Childhood Coach Gave A Stern Advice To Rohit Sharma

3-0 T20I series win versus New Zealand. 3-0 ODI win versus West Indies followed by 3-0 T20I win against the same opposition. Rohit Sharma has had a perfect start to his full-time India captaincy.

But, Rajkumar Sharma, the childhood coach of former skipper Virat Kohli, has a piece of advice for India’s new all-former captain, Rohit Sharma.

Rajkumar feels that Rohit, who is known for his calm temperament, should be calmer when handling things on the field. Rohit was seen letting out his frustration on a number of occasions during the West Indies series. He kicked the ball in annoyance after Bhuvneshwar Kumar had dropped a catch, and also scolded Chahal for not moving quickly in the field.

Rajkumar reckons Rohit, the 5-time IPL winning captain, “must learn” to keep his anger to himself and not vent it out on his players, at least on the field where dozens of cameras can capture it.

“Rohit Sharma is considered a cool captain, but we have seen him get angry on the field lately. He must learn to not express his anger at his teammates in public. If someone makes a mistake, then he needs to make them understand in a calmer way,” Rajkumar said on the Youtube channel Khelneeti.

The West Indies ODI and T20I series was the first time that Kohli played under the captaincy of Rohit. Rajkumar asserted that both had had a healthy relationship in the past when Kohli was the skipper, and was pleased to see them working out together. Kohli was often seen communicating with Rohit in the field – whether it was for DRS referrals or field adjustments.

“It’s good to see Rohit and Virat working together. We have seen this in the past as well when Kohli was the captain. He used to field in the deep during the death overs and MS Dhoni was handling things in the middle,” Rajkumar added.

Rohit will next lead India in the upcoming 3-T20I series against Sri Lanka, followed by the 2-Test series when Rohit will captain India in Test cricket for the first time. Virat Kohli has been rested for the T20I series but will return to play his 100th Test in Mohali.
