The Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been receiving a lot of criticism for his poor form and inconsistent performances. Several cricketers and experts have criticized the performances of Rohit Sharma.
On Sunday, December 4, Rohit showed glimpses of his old form in the first ODI of the series against Bangladesh. He made a good start in the innings, opening with veteran Shikhar Dhawan, however, once again he failed to capitalize on it, losing to Shakib Al Hasan for 27. In the 1st ODI match, the Men in Blue were bowled out for 186 runs and Bangladesh won the low-scoring thriller with one wicket remaining to take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing series. Earlier, Rohit had a disappointing run in the T20 World Cup 2022 as well, following which he was rested for the New Zealand tour.
Talking about ODIs, in 2022, Rohit missed most of the games due to injury or due to rest. Playing only 7 games this year, Rohit is yet to make an impact in ODIs. He has scored 2 half-centuries from 7 games, with 76 as his top score. His average has also fallen below 40 in a calendar year for the first time since 2018.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s former coach, Rajkumar Sharma feels that Rohit Sharma’s struggling form is a major issue for the Indian cricket team. Rajkumar Sharma feels that Rohit’s disappointing batting performances might have made an impact on his captaincy as well. Speaking to India New Sports, Rajkumar predicted that the captain would be messed up right now because he needs to reflect heavily on his own efforts after a streak of below-par performances.
Rajkumar claimed that when the captain himself is struggling for runs, the team’s confidence will also suffer. He said: “Yes, Rohit Sharma’s lack of form is one of the reasons we have struggled. But that is not the only reason. We have also been weak in various other areas. His form is critical in white-ball cricket because it gives India a good start”
He added: “If the captain is suffering, there may be turmoil in the locker room. He cannot be forceful in such instances since he will be concerned about his own batting as well as the team. It has an impact on the team’s atmosphere,”
The 2nd ODI match between India and Bangladesh will take place on December 7 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
