Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting found himself at the receiving end of criticism and trolling after his prediction for India’s second innings proved completely wrong. On Sunday, Ponting had predicted that India wouldn’t even manage to cross the 200-run mark in the second innings of the ongoing third test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

It all started after a fan asked him: “What is a good score to declare for Australia”.

“What is a good score to declare for Australia. #AskRicky“

The tweet soon caught the attention of Ricky Ponting, who was quick to come up with a reply to the fan. Speaking via Channel7, Ricky Ponting underestimated team India as he predicted that the team would not even manage to cross the 200-run mark in the second innings. Ponting wrote:

“310 ahead at the moment, but I honestly think India won’t make 200 in the second innings”

As soon as India went past the 200-run mark, all thanks to the heroic knock of Rishabh Pant, fans on Twitter started trolling the cricketer left, right, and center. Former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag took to his Twitter and trolled Ricky Ponting with a hilarious tweet.

In his tweet, Sehwag shared a funny picture of Rishabh Pant and Ricky Ponting.  Here, check out the tweet:

Soon, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer also joined the bandwagon and took a hilarious dig at Ricky Ponting. In his tweet, Jaffer shared a hilarious meme reminding the former Australian skipper that ‘the best time to delete this tweet was immediately after sending it, the second-best time is now’.

Soon, Ponting also took to his Twitter and reacted to the trolling he faced on Twitter after his prediction proved wrong. Ponting took to his Twitter to defend himself, saying that the pitch has not deteriorated as much as he expected. He wrote:

“So much for the prediction of India scoring under 200, this pitch hasn’t deteriorated anywhere near what I was expecting. Like the way Rishabh Pant’s playing, it’s the perfect approach to take in these conditions. And now it’s game on,”
