Virender Sehwag Hailed Pat Cummins As The New ‘Captain Cool’ Of The Cricket World

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag showered praise on the Australia skipper Pat Cummins following Australia’s win over England in the first Test of Ashes 2023. Sehwag also hailed him as the new ‘Captain Cool’ in the cricket world, a term which has been associated with the legendary captain MS Dhoni.

Cummins led the Australian cricket team to a two-wicket win over England at Edgbaston after a thrilling opening test. Cummins himself stepped up for his team and played a captain’s knock and smashed the winning runs over the Ben Stokes‘ side.

Usman Khawaja dominated the match with 141 and 65 runs but Cummins made the biggest impact as he played out an unbeaten knock of 44 runs to snatch a win from England’s grasp in the last hour of Day 5. This was the fifth Ashes win in six matches for Cummins as a captain.

The cricket fraternity has been going gaga over the fantastic performance of Pat Cummins and his side. Sehwag joined the cricket fraternity to react to Australia’s thrilling two-wicket win over England.

Sehwag took to his social media and praised the clinical performance of the Australians while also giving a new nickname to the Australian captain. He wrote:

“What a Test Match. One of the best I have seen in recent times. Test cricket is the Best Cricket. Was a gutsy decision by England to declare just before close on Day 1, especially considering the weather. But Khawaja was outstanding in both innings and Pat Cummins is the new Mr. Cool in Test cricket. What an innings under pressure and that partnership with Lyon was one to remember for a long time,”

The world no.1 Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin also reacted to Australia’s emphatic win at Edgbaston. He also compared Australia’s two-wicket win to their infamous two-run defeat at the same venue in the 2005 Ashes. Ashwin wrote:

“2005 Ashes feel to this test series so far. #Ashes2023”
