T20 WORLD CUP 2022

Virender Sehwag Leaves Out Ex-Captain Virat Kohli While Naming His Top-3 For India At The T20 WC

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag left everyone stunned while picking his top three for the Indian cricket team at the upcoming T20 World Cup. The legendary batter has left out batting maestro Virat Kohli from his preferred list that should bat in the Men in Blue top order at the marque event.

Virender Sehwag Excluded Virat From His T20 WC Top-3

Sehwag claimed that he wants hard-hitters at the top in the T20I format of the game and also wants a left-right combination. Considering this theory, Sehwag urged the Indian side to pick Ishan Kishan as an opener alongside one of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma.

Speaking in an interaction with Sony Sports, he said: “India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20s. However, I would personally vouch for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul as the top three batters for the World Cup in Australia. The right-hand and left-hand combination of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, or for that matter, Ishan and KL Rahul could be quite interesting for the World T20,”

Virender Sehwag was highly impressed with the way young Ishan Kishan played against Proteas. More than the runs, it was Kishan’s intent that impressed Sehwag the most as he feels that this is how India should approach T20I cricket.

Sehwag backed Umran Malik

Further, Sehwag also backed young Indian speedster Umran Malik to rule the fast bowling department for years alongside world-class Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami.

Umran Malik had a stellar run in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League and thanks to his consistent performances, Umran recently made his debut for the Indian cricket team in the ongoing T20I series against Ireland.

Talking about Malik, Sehwag said: “If there is one pacer who has thoroughly impressed me, of late, it is none other than Umran Malik. He should definitely be part of India’s plans as one of the key bowlers alongside the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami. This IPL has given us many promising young bowlers, but Umran’s skills and talent will definitely earn him a place in the Indian team across all three formats in the long run.”
