“This Is Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians…” – Virender Sehwag Made A Bold Remark After MI’s 3rd Defeat In IPL 2024

Virender Sehwag, the former Indian cricketer who played for Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, advised Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya to seek inspiration from Rohit Sharma. Sehwag highlighted Mumbai Indians’ ability to bounce back from setbacks, a quality they have demonstrated in previous seasons. Sehwag’s remarks come as Mumbai Indians faced their third consecutive defeat in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Everyone anticipated a change in Mumbai Indians‘ fortunes as they played their first home game of IPL 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium. Home teams have enjoyed a significant advantage in this edition of the tournament, and Mumbai Indians were expected to capitalize on that. However, despite winning the toss, the Mumbai Indians found themselves struggling against the Rajasthan Royals.

Once Mumbai’s innings began, the Rajasthan Royals bowlers, led by Trent Boult, aimed to exploit the favorable conditions and the low morale of the Mumbai batsmen. Unfortunately for Mumbai, their top-order collapsed, with four wickets falling within the first four overs, leaving them reeling at just 20 runs on the board.

2 Reasons Why Hardik Pandya Should Immediately Step Down As The Captain Of Mumbai Indians

Boult struck early blows for the Rajasthan Royals, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir, and Dewald Brevis, all without scoring a run. Ishan Kishan fell to Nandre Burger’s bowling, leaving Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma to stabilize the innings after the disastrous start.

Despite the efforts of Pandya and Varma, they couldn’t build significant partnerships, with Pandya scoring 34 runs off 21 balls and Varma contributing 32 off 29 balls. Tim David was the only other batsman to make a notable contribution, scoring 17 runs off 24 balls. Mumbai Indians were eventually bowled out for 125 runs, with Boult and Chahal taking three wickets each, Burger claiming two, and Avesh Khan picking up one wicket.

Rajasthan Royals comfortably chased down the target within the 16th over, securing a six-wicket victory with Riyan Parag’s half-century leading the charge. With Mumbai Indians suffering three consecutive losses out of three matches played, their prospects of making a comeback are uncertain. They can afford to lose a couple more matches, but ideally, they aim to avoid further defeats.

However, if Mumbai Indians continue to lose matches, they will be under pressure to win every remaining game. While this task is challenging, Mumbai has successfully accomplished such comebacks in the past.

“Mumbai is a team that loses 3-4 matches but knows how to make a comeback. But that was Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai, not Hardik’s. So this is a pressure on Hardik as to how he can inspire his team to stage a comeback.” – Sehwag said via Cricbuzz.
