India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman in world cricket, across all three formats of the game. Kohli has established himself as the force around which India’s batting unit operates. Irrespective of the format and conditions, Kohli has been scoring runs consistently and winning matches for India.

Virat Kohli’s former teammate Virender Sehwag shared a very interesting story about Virat Kohli during the ongoing third Test match between India and England. Sehwag said that after giving ordinary performances in his first 6 Test Kohli was about make way for Rohit Sharma, but MS Dhoni and Sehwag backed him and played him against the wish of the selectors.

“The selectors wanted to play Rohit Sharma instead of Kohli at Perth in 2012,” said Sehwag. “I was vice-captain and Dhoni was leading the team, and we decided that we have to back Kohli. The rest is history.”

Virat Kohli, who made Test debut in 2011 against West Indies at Kingston, had scores of 4, 15, 0, 27, 30, 52, 63, 11, 0, 23, 9 and one DNB in 12 innings ahead of the second Test match of that series Down Under. And this is why selectors were keen on dropping him and drafting Rohit Sharma in the playing XI. But the then Test skipper MS Dhoni backed Kohli, and the rest is history, as we all know today. In the Perth Test, Kohli scored 44 and 75 runs.
