Mayank Dagar is learned to be the son of Virender Sehwag’s cousin, and represents Himachal Pradesh in the Indian domestic cricket.
26-year-old Delhi spinner Mayank Dagar was part of the IPL 2023 auction that was staged on Friday in Kochi. Dagar was bagged by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a considerable amount of INR 1.8 crore, up from his base price of INR 20 lakh.
SRH, who had the biggest purse going into the IPL 2023 auction, were the first to raise their paddle for Dagar. Rajasthan Royals, a franchise known to rope in and build up youngsters right from the inaugural season, also contended for Dagar.
Both SRH and RR jostled for Dagar with aggressive bids and eventually, the latter pulled out with SRH being able to buy the services of the spinner for 1.8 crore.

Dagar was also part of the India under-19 team that reached the final of the 2016 under-19 World Cup. Then, he was India’s best bowler, snaring three wickets. However, India still lost the final against West Indies under-19.
After his impressive show in the U-19 World Cup, Mayank Dagar was bought by Punjab Kings in 2018 for 20 lakh but didn’t get to make his IPL debut. He had since been going unsold at the IPL auctions.
Mayank Dagar has taken 87 wickets in 29 first-class matches at an average of 30 and has shown signs of improvement in recent domestic tournaments.
He had a terrific Syed Mushtaq Ali 2022 season where he took 12 wickets in 7 matches at an average of just 11 and an economy of less than 6, helping Himachal Pradesh reach the final.
He has snapped up 44 wickets in as many T20 matches, while bowling at a tight economy of 6.17. Dagar is also a handy batsman, averaging 20 in first-class cricket.
