Team India has been struggling with the No.4 slot for a long time. BCCI and management have been experimenting with the players at No.4 slot but hasn’t found much success yet. Though India is having the best top-order, the hunt for a reliable player at No.4 is still on.

Recently, Shreyas Iyer was included in the playing squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh and made everyone witness the effect of his destruction. He turned out to be the real weapon for the team, as he turned the tables when the top-order batsmen failed to capitalize on a fast start.
Shreyas was on the league of his own in the match. He scored 62 runs in 33 balls, caressing a flurry of 3 fours and smashing 5 hits into the gallery. KL Rahul was equally good in the match as he constructed a brilliant partnership of 59 runs with Iyer.

Impressed with his performance, VVS Laxman, the former Indian cricketer poured in praises for him in his recent column for Times Of India. He wrote:
“Equally impressive was Shreyas Iyer, who has gone a long way towards establishing himself as the elusive No. 4. When KL was blazing away, Shreyas was content to play second fiddle. Once he became the lead partner with a struggling Rishabh Pant for company, he took over the lead role, shifting gears effortlessly.”

VVS Laxman also feels that Shreyas can be the reliable player India is looking for at No.4. He wrote:
“Not only did he showcase his ability, he also showed intelligence by targeting the sixth bowler. That’s a great combination to possess at No. 4 where, depending on the situation, you will have to embrace different avatars,”
