Former Indian batsmen and current commentator VVS Laxman, recently, slammed the Wisden for missing out on the ‘Hitman’ Sharma and his powerful performances while naming the five outstanding performers of 2019.
Well, recently, the Wisden announced a list of five outstanding performers of 2019, which included the names Jofra Archer, Pat Cummins, Ellyse Perry, Simon Harmer, and Marnus Labschagne.
There isn’t any doubt about the fact that 2019 was an outstanding year for Rohit Sharma. Not just he gave wonderful performances in ODI and T20Is but garnered appreciation from one and all after his impeccable performances as an opener in the longest format of the game.
VVS Laxman was disappointed with the fact that the Wisden missed out on the amazing performances given by Rohit Sharma throughout 2019. He felt Rohit Sharma, who slammed five centuries during the ODI World Cup 2019, deserved to be there in the team of Wisden’s five outstanding players of 2019.
Recently, talking to Star Sports show Cricket Connected, VVS Laxman opened up about the same and he slammed the Wisden for missing out on Rohit. He also said that Ashes is big but the World Cup is bigger and Rohit was outstanding during the World Cup. He had said:
“I think anyone who follows the game of cricket will be surprised and shocked not to see Rohit Sharma’s name in those five players list. The Ashes is an important series, the World Cup is bigger than Ashes. And someone who has scored five hundred; remember the first hundred was on a tough wicket in Southampton against South Africa and none of the other batsmen got runs. “
VVS Laxman also recalled the brilliant performance of Rohit Sharma against Pakistan. Expressing his disappointment, he said:
“And he played another important knock against Pakistan. I am really shocked and surprised, and every cricketer will be shocked and surprised by this announcement from Wisden.”
