Washington Sundar’s father, M Sundar was left disappointed after his son couldn’t get to his maiden Test century despite staying unbeaten a couple of times.
Washington Sundar, who made his debut for team India in the 4th Test against Australia at Gabba, has impressed one and all with his batting performances. In his debut match, he had scored 62 runs off 144 balls, smashing 7 fours and 1 six. Later, he was picked in the first Test match against England, where he had scored an unbeaten 85 runs in an innings.
On Day 3 of the ongoing 4th and the last test match against England, Sundar missed out on a well-deserved maiden Test century as team India was bundled out for 365 runs, with a lead of 160 runs. While he was stranded on 96 runs, India’s tailenders Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj couldn’t open their account and were dismissed.
Later, speaking to News18, Sundar’s father heaped praises on his son and claimed that his son is ready for whatever team India asks him to do. He said:
“I don’t understand why people are surprised at his batting. I have been hearing. He can face the new ball. But we are ready for whatever the Indian team asks him to do,”
He also expressed his disappointment with the performances of tail-enders and came down hard on him. He said:
“What I am really disappointed about are the tail-enders. They couldn’t stay on for even a brief while. Suppose India were playing, needing 10 runs to win, wouldn’t this have been a huge mistake. There are millions of youngsters watching, they shouldn’t learn what the tail-enders did,”
He added:
“It is not about technique or skills. It was a matter of courage. England were tired, Stokes was bowling at 123-126. They were not bowling at lethal pace,”
