England captain Joe Root continues to have a stellar year as he played another sensational knock on the third day of the second Ashes Test match against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday. Root, who has been in a red-hot form lately, went on to play an unbeaten 128-run partnership with Dawid Malan as the pair led a fightback from England on Day 3.

Earlier, Joe Root was dismissed on 89 runs in the first Test match, missing out on a ton. In the first innings of the ongoing second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval, Root scored 62 runs.

Recently, he surpassed Michael Vaughan’s record in 2002 when he scored 1,481 runs. On Day 3, Joe Root surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar and became the first cricketer since former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith in 2008 to score more than 1600 Test runs in a calendar year.

Meanwhile, if Root manages to score 1,789 runs in 2021, then he would become the first batter to register the most number of runs in a single calendar year in the longest format of the game. He currently stands at the fifth position among players with the most Test runs in a year.

Social media has been buzzing with praises for the England skipper. From cricketers, experts to fans, everyone came up with amazing reactions while lauding the cricketer for his terrific performances.

Among many, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer also took To Twitter and heaped praises on Joe Root, saying that the England skipper is single-handedly carrying the team’s batting on his shoulders. He wrote:

“Joe Root is such a joy to watch. Looks easy on the eyes but scores some tough runs. One of the the best players of spin, and currently the best among usual suspects in Kohli, Smith and Williamson. What a year he’s having, single-handedly carrying the English batting. #Ashes”
