Wasim Jaffer Wrote The Best Tweet For Renuka Singh Thakur: The Indian women’s team suffered another heartbreak on the big stage as they lost to Australia in the opening game of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Although Australia had started the match as firm favourites, India had taken a solid upper hand in the match courtesy of a sizzling powerplay bowling performance from seamer Renuka Singh Thakur and were likely to win at one point in time when Australia were 49/5 in their run chase of 155.
But, Meg Lanning’s side, who are the reigning T20 World champions, stormed back strongly and wrapped up the run chase with 6 balls to go and 3 wickets in hand.
Renuka Singh Thakur takes four wickets in the powerplay but India still lose

India needed a strong start to defend 155 against a deep Australian batting line-up. They got a much better one than they would have hoped for – as seamer Renuka Singh Thakur put on a brilliant exhibition of swing and seam bowling to nip out Australia’s top four – Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney, Meg Lanning and Tahlia McGrath – inside the powerplay, and soon after the powerplay, off-spinner Deepti Sharma dismissed Rachael Haynes to leave Australia reeling at 49/5.
Renuka bowled four overs on a trot to finish with stunning figures of 4/18. But after that began an upsurge in the Aussie innings as Ashleigh Gardner and Grace Harris fought back with a superb counter-attack with the bat.
Gardner and Harris scored 51 runs in 34 balls before India struck back with the wickets of Harris and Jess Jonassen. Gardner turned on the beast mode then and hammered the Indian bowlers with utter disdain in support of Alana King.
The duo put up a partnership of 47* off 28 balls with Gardner smashing 27 runs off 12 balls in that to her side home with an entire over to spare.
Wasim Jaffer’s nostalgia-evoking tweet
Former India opener Wasim Jaffer, now also known for his commendable social media game, wrote a tweet that evoked nostalgia among fans.
In perhaps a slightly emotional tweet, Jaffer drew parallels between Renuka Singh Thakur and Indian batting legend Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, saying that despite the great efforts of Indian players with the initials “S R T” and them taking down a McGrath in the opposition Australian team, India still lost the game. Deja Vu
“Jersey no.10 with S,R & T in the initials gave India the perfect start, got the better of McGrath but the mighty Aussies came back to break Indian hearts,” Jaffer tweeted following India’s loss in the CWG 2022 opener.
