Wasim Jaffer Named India’s Playing XI For First ODI Against SA: The Indian cricket team is sweating it out ahead of the 3-match ODI series. The action will get underway with the opening match on Wednesday at Boland Park in Paarl. After losing the 3-match Test series by 1-2, the Indian cricket team would be gutted to make a comeback in the 3-match ODI series against the rainbow nation.
Since Rohit Sharma, who was supposed to lead the Indian team in the ODI series as his first assignment as ODI captain, has been ruled out of the upcoming series because of an injury issue, KL Rahul will be seen leading the Indian cricket team as the stand-by skipper in his absence. KL Rahul was initially named the vice-captain of the Indian team.
Meanwhile, ahead of the series, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer took to Twitter on Tuesday and named his playing XI for Team India for the opening game against South Africa.
In Rohit’s absence, Wasim Jaffer picked Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul for the opening slots in his playing XI. The opening players were followed by Virat Kohli at number 3. Jaffer picked Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order while Rishabh was named the wicketkeeper.
Shardul Thakur was picked as the all-rounder in Jaffer’s India’s XI for the upcoming series. Jaffer preferred Shardul Thakur ahead of Venkatesh Iyer in the ranks, who enjoyed a sensational run in the domestic season in 2021.
For the spinners, Jaffer went with Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. While Jasprit Bumrah, the vice-captain will be leading the bowling attack. Jaffer has a toss-up between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Siraj for the last slot.
