Wasim Jaffer Shared An Important Message For Jasprit Bumrah On Twitter

Wasim Jaffer Shared An Important Message For Jasprit Bumrah On Twitter: History is in beckoning when Jasprit Bumrah will don the prideful blue blazer and come out to lead the country for the first time, in any format, against England at Edgbaston on Friday.

Regular captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out to start the game after returning another covid-19 positive test; he had been in isolation since Saturday and hasn’t returned a negative test yet.

KL Rahul, the designated vice-captain, was already ruled out of the tour due to a groin injury, paving way for the BCCI to name Bumrah the new stand-in captain for the Edgbaston Test, which is the rescheduled fifth Test of the series that started in August last year and which India led by 2-1.

Wasim Jaffer says Bumrah can take inspiration from MS Dhoni

It is to note that Bumrah has never captained a team either in domestic cricket or in the IPL. But his smarts, shrewd tactical acumen and sharp brain, along with his leadership qualities, emboldened the selectors to put him in the leadership group for the first time when he was the vice-captain during Sri Lanka Tests earlier in the year.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer took to Twitter to congratulate Bumrah. He also invoked the example of the great MS Dhoni, who also was given India’s captaincy in 2007 without any prior experience of leading a side. Jaffer stated that Bumrah can take inspiration from Dhoni who then went on to attain incredible heights as Indian captain.

“Congratulations and good luck to @Jaspritbumrah93 you can take inspiration from the fact that last Indian who captained the country before leading in FC/List A/IPL eneded up taking India to no.1 Test ranking and winning 3 ICC trophies,” Jaffer tweeted.

Jasprit Bumrah is India’s first bowler captain since Anil Kumble, the first fast-bowler captain since Kapil Dev, and the first-ever specialist fast bowler to captain India. Rishabh Pant, who led India in the T20Is vs South Africa, is named to be Bumrah’s deputy.

Meanwhile, England have announced the eleven for the match: Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (c), Sam Billings (w), Matthew Potts, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach, James Anderson.

India, on the other hand, will have to select an opener to partner Shubman Gill; they have three options – Cheteshwar Pujara, Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat.
