The reigning, defending champions England have got off to a horror start in their World Cup 2023 campaign. A big loss to New Zealand and a bounce-back victory against Bangladesh was followed by one of the biggest, if not the biggest, upsets in ODI World Cup history as they went down by 69 runs to Afghanistan.
Afghanistan got hefty support from the crowd in Delhi who witnessed history being made as Afghanistan recorded their first-ever win over England.
This win for Afghanistan, and the confidence that they will take from this of being able to beat a higher-ranked team, will make their next two matches even more interesting: Afghanistan will next take on New Zealand and Pakistan in Chennai, a venue famous for its spin-assisting pitches on which the spin trio of Mujeeb, Rashid, and Nabi can force another upset.
AFG vs ENG: Wasim Jaffer trolls Michael Vaughan hilariously on Twitter
As for England, the campaign of the defending champions seems to have derailed early on and a group-stage exit looms. A shock loss of England led to a spate of memes on Twitter, which you can see here.
Out of the many funny memes, one special meme came from former India batsman Wasim Jaffer who hilariously, and in particular, trolled former England skipper Michael Vaughan. It was inevitable that Wasim Jaffer would toy with Michael Vaughan on Twitter after England’s surprising loss.
Wasim Jaffer posted a sweet and funny video of Hasbulla whistling and tagged Michael Vaughan in his tweet.

Talking about the game, electing to bowl first, England were initially rocked by opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who smashed 80 runs in 57 balls but got run out. England made a comeback in the game through wickets in the middle overs before 23-year-old youngster Ikram Alikhil recorded a gritty half-century, scoring 58 runs in 66 balls. Cameos from Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman helped Afghanistan reach a competitive total of 284.
Afghanistan bowled much better than they did against India and had a hold over England right from the start. In the second over, Farooqi got Bairstow, and then the spin trio of Mujeeb, Rashid, and Nabi choked the rest of the batters with Naveen nipping out Jos Buttler.
Mujeeb was named the Man of the Match for his all-round show.
