Watch: Australian Bowler Nic Maddinson Mimics Jasprit Bumrah During A Match

In just a few years after making his international debut in 2016, Jasprit Bumrah has become a world-class bowler, across formats. So much that majority of fans consider him an all-time great.

It was Bumrah’s unusual bowling action and run-up – a short run-up where he starts with steady steps, before picking up pace, hustling at the crease and sends down the delivery with a slingy action – that caught everyone’s attention during his early Mumbai Indians days.

This unorthodox bowling action was earlier thought to not be tenable for a long and successful career. However, he shut down all his doubters by not only becoming one of the best white-ball bowler, but also carving out a terrific Test career so far, and is arguably the best all-format pacer in the world.

His unorthodox bowling action, while not recommended by coaches, has been picked up by many youngsters and other cricketers also try it for fun. One such is Australia’s Nic Maddinson who bowled with an action similar to Bumrah’s in the Sheffield Shield final on Monday at the WACA ground in Perth.

Bowling for Victoria against Western Australia’s Aaron Hardie, Maddinson emulated Bumrah’s action, though he’s a left-hander. Fans called it a left-handed Jasprit Bumrah or cheaper Bumrah!

While Maddinson didn’t have the oomph of Bumrah’s bowling, he tried! That sent all other players and commentators in a flurry of laughter seeing the left-hander as it was a really innocuous delivery that the batter easily let go.

Cricket.com.au uploaded the video of Maddinson imitating Bumrah’s action, with a caption “Nic Maddinson brings out the Bumrah!” The video went quickly went viral on social media and the fans loved it.

The game ended in a draw but Western Australia won the final on bonus points after outperforming Victoria in the first 100 overs of the first two innings, ending their 23-year drought for a Sheffield Shield trophy.
