Everyone is looking forward to the three-match series between England and Pakistan. Fans are thrilled to see how Pakistan bowlers fare against England’s batsmen in helpful conditions. Over the years, there have been very few teams around the world, which produced thrilling moments with the red ball in hand as Pakistan.
On Thursday, Ben Stokes who was batting almost a foot outside his crease on the second day of the 1st test match was dismissed by a 30-year-old Mohammad Abbas.
Abbas, who is said to turn out to be Pakistan’s ace in the pack series bowled Ben Stokes out for a duck. Stokes’ dismissal was his first one since 2017. His dismissal left England cricket team staggering at 12/3, from which they recovered to post 92/4 at the end of the play.
Before the Test series kickstarted, Michael Vaughan had stated that Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah can be the next Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis from almost three decades ago, however, Mohammad Abbas showed why he could be the deadliest bowlers in the ongoing series because of his impeccable performances and swing movements. Though Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi bowled faster than Abbas on Day 2, but it was the deliveries of Abbas, which got less movement than him.
The delivery that dismissed Ben Stokes was a scrambled seam. Abbas drew him forward and just beat his outside edge with a ball that deviated away ever so slightly. And in the next moment, the ball had hit the top of off-stump and the bails were in the air. As per CricViz’s calculation, the ball seamed 1.8 degrees away from Stokes and swung 0.2 degrees in.
Now Abbas has an amazing record of 2 dismissals and 0 runs in the 12 balls he has bowled to Ben Stokes.
