Hailed as ‘Baby Malinga,’ Matheesha Pathirana took giant strides toward the legacy of Lasith Malinga with his two pinpoint yorkers clocked at 150 KPH to rattle the stumps of Mitchell Marsh and Tristan Stubbs in match number 13 of the IPL 2024.
CSK and DC met on Sunday evening for match number 13 of the IPL 2024 at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
The 21-year-old Matheesha Pathirana made two big dents in the Delhi Capitals’ batting line-up by casting two in-form middle-order batters – Mitchell Marsh and Tristan Stubbs – with accurate, high-pace yorkers, reminding fans of the great Lasith Malinga.
The first one, to Marsh, swerved in the air at the speed of 150.4 KPH and landed at the foot of Marsh. Until the time Marsh could bring his bat down, his middle stump had already been uprooted.

A ball later, this time, Pathirana knocked out the off-stump from the ground as Tristan Stubbs met a similar fate to Marsh. Stubbs played a straight drive looking at the line of the ball in the off-stump, however, it was a shot in vain as he was beaten in the air and by Pathirana’s pace. This was a sight to behold for the fans, especially for the CSK fans who had been tormented by Malinga in his heydays.

Pathirana ended his night with the wicket of DC captain Rishabh Pant, who scored 51 runs in 32 balls. Despite Pathirana’s 3-for, Delhi posted a formidable total of 191.
