Mohammed Shami has taken a sly dig at former captain Virat Kohli and former Head Coach Ravi Shastri for not playing him the semi final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand. Shami was fantastic in the limited matches that he played in that tournament.
Four years later, Mohammed Shami was not again the first choice in the playing XI. After Hardik Pandya’s injury, he was picked up in the playing XI and he did not look back since then. He ended up with the highest number of wickets taken in that tournament (24) and led India to the final. However, in doing so, he aggravated his heel injury and he had a surgery after the World Cup which has kept him out since then.

Shami expressed his frustration that despite picking up 13 wickets in 3 games and 14 wickets in 4 games in the 2019 World Cup, he still had to sit out at the sidelines during the semi final at Old Trafford. The premier pacer even said that he can’t display his skills if he does not get adequate chances. However, he did not complain about that snub as he was confident that those who trust him will definitely give him the opportunity. It was a clear dig at Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri who were responsible for selecting the playing XI in that tournament.

India got knocked out of the World Cup after suffering defeat in the semi final. They lost the game by 18 runs and it was a moment of heartbreak for the Indian Team. Even during the ODI World Cup 2023, India won all the games till the final but lost the final against Australia in Ahmedabad.
