A flicked, pick-up shot that sailed over the boundary for a maximum from Shreyas Iyer was so good that even the bowler whom he hit it, Mohammed Siraj, applauded it.
The KKR captain Shreyas Iyer, who had failed with the bat in KKR’s first match against SRH, played a good innings of 39* runs in 24 balls against RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium on Friday night.
KKR’s chase had been made simple and straightforward by the opening partnership of 86 (39) between Sunil Narine and Phil Salt, followed by a 30-ball 50 from Venkatesh Iyer as KKR chased down the target of 183 in 16.5 overs. Going under the radar was the innings of 39* (24) from the KKR skipper, who cracked 2 fours and 2 sixes, and also hit the winning runs. It was a crucial innings for Iyer personally.
In it, one of his sixes was so delightful that Siraj applauded it. On the last ball of the 15th over of KKR’s innings, Siraj went straighter to Iyer and bowled a full-length delivery on his pads. Iyer played a sumptuous flicked pick-up shot and the ball flew over wide long-on for a maximum.
As the ball went over the fence for a six, Siraj looked at Iyer and gave a little applause before walking back.

KKR had done well with the ball to restrict RCB to 182 as Virat Kohli scored 83 (59). KKR bowlers adapted to the two-paced natute of the pitch and used cutters and slower ball variations, before Narine and other KKR batters blasted their way to the target.
Shreyas Iyer said after the win, “Coming here, getting those two sessions of practice, we were in a good shape from the previous game. Coming and hitting few balls, it felt comfortable from within. The way Russell came in and realised the wicket wasn’t giving much for bowlers, and went to slower ones, analysing the conditions on the spot was pleasing to the eye. The communication was brilliant. See when Narine comes in to open, he knows he has one job which is to clear the infield.”
