Shoaib Akhtar Blasts Journalist Over ‘Baap Baap Hota Hai’ Joke: For over a decade the ‘Baap-Beta’ joke/incident made famous by Virender Sehwag regularly gets talked about whenever there is an India-Pakistan cricket match. And with no surprise, this reference was once again brought up on news channels and social media as the India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2022 game approached.

This time, though, Shoaib Akhtar had had enough. And he fumed at the journalist who queried him about it and also dared Virender Sehwag to talk about it in front of him.

Shoaib Akhtar says Sehwag had denied making such statement

Ahead of the India-Pakistan clash on Sunday, Shoaib Akhtar appeared on a news show where he was asked about more banter and sledging stories between the cricketers of the two nations; the anchor made herself clear when she mentioned Sehwag’s version of the ‘Baap baap hota he, aur beta, beta‘.

Touching on this topic, Akhtar straightaway got upset and gave a lengthy lecture to the anchor. Akhtar even revealed that he’d asked Sehwag about making such a remark which the former India opener had denied.

Here’s how the conversation went:

News Anchor: “Woh toh pata hain hume ki Viru ne aapko kaha tha ki ‘Baap baap hota he, aur beta, beta’. Uske ilava aise kuch incident jo kisiko na pata ho aur aap aaj bara exposé karte hai?”

Shoaib Akhtar: “First thing, agar yeh cheez usne mere muh pe boli hoti toh woh bachta nahi. Mujhe nahi pata usne kab kaha yeh aur kis waqt kaha. In fact ,maine khud usse ekbar pucha tha ki aise koi statement di hai ki nahi. Usne seedha bola ‘nahi’.

“Dusra baat yeh hai, aap jo program kijiye, aap zarur baatein kijiye, bara khusi ka mauka he but kaam qabil e izzat ho. Main sabka izzat karta hu, aap logon ki izzat karta hu. Bohut badi fan following hai India mein. Aur main humesha koshis karta hu ki aise baat na karu jisme do mulk ke beech zyada faasle badhe. And I’m not liking this one bit. I’m being very honest with you.

“Usne yeh kaha, usne yeh kaha. Let’s come back to cricket. Bohot si ache baat kar sakte hai. I request you. Jis tarah yeh program hota he woh ache nehi lagta mujhe, wohi cheez baar baar repeat karna.

Did Virender Sehwag actually said this?

Well, the answer is yes. Years ago, when Sehwag and Tendulkar were still active players, the cricketers of both India and Pakistan assembled under the same roof for a fun event which was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, the Bollywood superstar.

There Shah Rukh asked Sehwag about any memorable sledging incident, to which Sehwag revealed this ‘Baap baap hota he, aur beta, beta‘ story.

Here is the clip of that story as narrated by Virender Sehwag himself:
