Virat Kohli entertained the fans in the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy showing off his dance moves to the tunes of a Nepali song during the match between India and Nepal on Monday in Group A of the Asia Cup 2023.

After India’s washout game against Pakistan, which meant Pakistan went through to the Super 4 round, India and Nepal, who had lost to Pakistan in Multan at the start of the tournament, met in a must-win encounter on Monday in Pallekele.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first to give his bowlers some game time after not getting to bowl a single ball against Pakistan as the rain didn’t allow any play to happen that day after India’s innings.

Ahead of the start of the 15th over of Nepal’s innings, between the 14th and 15th overs, the DJ at the stadium played a Nepali song to which Virat Kohli shook his leg and moved his body into a dancing rhythm. The fans in the stadium, which also included a good number of Nepali fans, enjoyed that and cheered for Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli drops an easy catch, but then takes a one-handed stunner

India had a disastrous start in the field as they dropped three catches, leaving the fans and the bowlers stunned.

Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, and Ishan Kishan dropped a catch each in the first five overs as Nepal got off to a flier of a start. Kohli dropped a very simple catch of Aasif Sheikh at cover. Later on, however, Virat Kohli took a one-handed stunner, at the same fielding position, to dismiss the same batsman he had given a life early on. By then, though, Sheikh scored 58 runs in 97 balls.

India bowled Nepal out for 230, though they would have liked to clean them up much earlier.

Teams:

Nepal (Playing XI): Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh(w), Rohit Paudel(c), Bhim Sharki, Sompal Kami, Gulsan Jha, Dipendra Singh Airee, Kushal Malla, Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC, Lalit Rajbanshi

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj
