With India needing a good start with the ball in their aim to level the series, India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj went on a rampage with a stunning six-wicket haul in his first spell.

Siraj was on fire in the morning session in Cape Town in the 2nd IND vs SA Test match, which India need to win to avoid a series loss. India started on the right notes, while also getting the slice of luck that has deserted them in their last three lost Tests in South Africa. Dean Elgar inside-edged and chopped onto his stumps while Tony de Zorzi was caught down the legside. Both these batters took the game away from India in Centurion, but the visitors dismissed them early today.

While Bumrah was rested after a 6-over first spell, captain Rohit Sharma didn’t halt Mohammed Siraj from bowling. And why would he? The pacer kept coming and taking wickets. He bowled 9 overs on a trot in his first spell with the new ball, and registered sensational figures of 6/15, which is now the third-best figures by an Indian bowler in Tests in South Africa.

Siraj completed his five-wicket haul with the wicket of Marco Jansen, who had scored 84* in Centurion.

Mohammed Siraj

Siraj got some help from Virat Kohli in planning Jansen’s dismissal. Standing at first slip, Virat Kohli instructed Siraj to bowl an outswinger outside the off-stump. Kohli gestured for Siraj to bowl outswinger to Jansen. Kohli also gestured that Jansen would nick it. As to Kohli’s instruction, Siraj bowled a superb outswinger outside the off-stump, and as Kohli had predicted, Jansen edged it for KL Rahul to take a simple catch.
