Dhruv Jurel has started his career on a solid note. The 23-year-old from Uttar Pradesh made his Test debut in the third Test against England in Rajkot. He scored 46 in his debut innings and then in his second Test, the youngster played a superb knock of 90 runs in Ranchi to help India come close to England’s first innings total.
He got his debut cap after Team India decided to drop KS Bharat owing to his consistent failures. With Rishabh Pant injured, Ishan Kishan on a break, and KL Rahul being picked as a batter, Dhruv Jurel got his maiden India call-up as a second wicket-keeper. After Bharat failed to perform in the first two Tests, Jurel got the opportunity in Test cricket and so far he’s been impressive, both with the bat and with the gloves.
Speaking with Jio Cinema at the end of day 3 in Ranchi, Dhruv Jurel revealed a very sweet conversation with his father that he had soon after his name was announced in the Test squad. Jurel revealed his father was elated to hear that his son would be in the same squad as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Jurel said, “I called my father and said ‘Papa I am in the Indian team’. So he asked me ‘Which Indian team?’ Because that time I was playing India A. So I told him that ‘Virat bhaiya, Rohit bhaiya waali team.’ He was very happy.”

Jurel had given a salute celebration after reaching his half-century in Ranchi. He explained that it was his father’s request that he give a salute, paying tribute to his father who is a Kargil war veteran.
‘It was for my father. Yesterday [Saturday] I spoke to him. My father indirectly told me ‘ek salute to dikha de (show me the salute once)’. He was a Kargil war veteran so my celebration was for him,” the youngster said.
Meanwhile, India need 152 more runs on day 4 to win the match and seal the series.
