After the conclusion of the 3-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka, all the focus has now shifted towards the ODI series. The ODI series will kickstart on January 10 in Guwahati, and the next two matches will then take place in Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram on January 12 and 15. 

Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has missed India's last two bilateral series, due to a thumb injury, is all set to return to lead the Indian cricket team in the 3-match ODI series that will officially start India's preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Besides him, many other senior players including Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, will also return to the Indian set-up.

The upcoming series holds a lot of importance as it will start India's preparations for the ODI World Cup 2023. In 2023, India is scheduled to host the 13th edition of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. Therefore, the team's focus will be more on the 50-over format.
